- 02 April 2013 A week ago I took the train up to Seattle. 33 hours from LA with a girl friend to write and see family. It was absolutely gorgeous. I could have stayed on the train another two weeks straight, and I'm sure I will. I didn't even think about taking a train here in the US but after I traveled Europe by myself for a month I figured I should get to know my own country as well! It was so Easy. And cheap. Amtrak is the shit. Took the Coast Starliner up through San Luis Obispo, all along the coast, into a landscape of snow covered mountains, through Puget Sound, and finally to Seattle. where surprise, surprise, it was NOT raining. It was beautiful. Went to GasWorks Park, Discovery Park, Greenlake, Pike Market, etc... Did a ton of writing on the way there and on the way back. Here's a poem and a few pictures from my trip: Bright eyed babies in motion though they hardly know it Skylines shifting rolling by like the snow capped mountains pushing through earth's intoxicating crust I'm dreaming while I'm waking Textures giving way to depth, peeling paint of worn down cities Dried graffiti sticking to rusted train cars like memories on my soul Meaningless to those who were not there, quickly forgotten Mermaid surfaced ocean glittering in the dying sun playing upon each ripple as if a galaxy were a fiddle I stay still yet always moving always pulsing always drinking in the second hand of this ticking clock Flap flap flap, the feathers rustling on the golden eyed eagle Wings unfurling over rows of growing grape I pause Close my eyes and let the warmth of past starlight illuminate my being In motion I am Content
- 14 August 2012 Blown away and moved to tears at la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Gaudi has my heart. Crazy how you can be in 2 polar opposite places within hours and have an appreciation for both.
